Staffs of Senators Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), Ranking Member of the Senate HELP Committee, and Sanders (I-VT), Chair of HELP, along with Senators Romney and Casey (D-PA), today released and are seeking feedback on a staff-level bipartisan discussion draft to reauthorize the Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Act (PAHPA), legislation that would help prepare the United States for the next public health emergency.

Senators Romney, member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, and Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), HELP Ranking Member, along with Representatives McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), Chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and Richard Hudson (R-NC), called on the Biden Administration to bolster oversight of research involving dangerous pathogens, which Congress required as part of the PREVENT Pandemics Act.

Senator Romney joined his colleagues in urging the U.S. Department of State to reauthorize the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and address mother-to-child HIV transmission in a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Global AIDS Coordinator and Special Representative for Health Diplomacy Ambassador Dr. John N. Nkengasong.

Senator Romney joined a bipartisan group of his Senate colleagues in urging the Administration to continue support for the Medicare Advantage program, which provides quality health care to millions of seniors and individuals with disabilities across the United States.

Senator Mitt Romney joined a bipartisan group of colleagues, led by Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), in sending a letter to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra condemning the delays by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to regulate e-cigarettes, failure to enforce the law and take action against companies marketing illegal vaping products, and the harm to children’s health from the agency’s inaction.

Senate Republicans are expressing concerns with the establishment of a permanent government price-setting program in the partisan Inflation Reduction Act and raising questions regarding federal health agencies’ plans for program implementation.
