WASHINGTON—U.S. Senators Mitt Romney (R-UT) and Chris Murphy (D-CT), Chairman and Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Near East, South Asia, Central Asia, and Counterterrorism, today received a briefing from the United States Ambassador to Iraq, Matthew Tueller, regarding the current situation in Iraq. After the briefing, Senator Romney released the following statement:

Preserving our partnership with the Iraqi government is critical to our goals of promoting an independent Iraq, countering Iranian influence in the region, preventing a resurgence of ISIS, and protecting America’s interests in the Middle East.”
