WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) today released the following statement ahead of the Senate’s vote to end debate on the Inhofe substitute amendment to the Fiscal Year 2021 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and proceed to a vote on its final passage.
“The Administration’s proposal to withdraw U.S. troops from Germany is a matter of extreme significance to our national security, our military readiness, and our alliances. A decision of such magnitude should not be made without the input of the United States Senate. My amendment, aimed at preventing such a withdrawal, deserves a robust debate and a vote on the Senate floor. Since that has not happened, I will oppose cutting off debate on the defense bill. Should my colleagues vote to end debate and proceed to a vote on final passage, however, I will support final passage of the defense bill.”
Earlier this week, Romney spoke on the Senate floor to urge his colleagues to debate and vote on his amendment to the NDAA, which would seek to prevent the Administration’s withdrawal of U.S. troops deployed to Germany.
